Some common challenges shared by parents include: \u201cMy child refuses to come and sit to do the activity.\u201d or \u201cMy child engages in inappropriate behaviours or self-stimulatory behaviours when the task becomes difficult.\u201d<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">These challenges may be due to a lack of readiness or learning-how-to-learn skills. Learning-how-to-learn is teaching children the process of learning. Good learning-how-to-learn skills will enable them to be able to learn from any teacher, as well as in different environments. By getting your child to complete a task successfully, you will teach him or her how to earn the reward.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d0d502 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1d0d502\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Tip #2: Notice your child\u2019s increased motivation<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98897d7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"98897d7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAs your child experiences the rewards, you should notice an increased willingness to come to sit down and engage in the task provided.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-914cadc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"914cadc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Tip #3: Reward your child for his or her attempt at trying (trying behaviour)<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6059384 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6059384\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When you choose to reward your child\u2019s attempt at trying (trying behaviour) instead of only correct behaviour, your child will develop more willingness to attend and try, even when the task may be difficult for him or her.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">One common mistake is rewarding only correct behaviours or upon completion of the task. font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">You may need to <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"><b>break it down<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> into smaller parts or give him more <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"><b>assistance<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> or make sure that the <\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text );\"><b>prompts<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\"> that you give him are helping him.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e896f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0e896f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h5 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Tip #2: Another way to help your child stay motivated is to teach them how to cope with the situation.<\/h5>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82c06f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"82c06f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>An excellent way to do this is to teach them to communicate their difficulties.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">By teaching them replacement language such as \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d, \u201cIt\u2019s too difficult\u201d, or \u201chelp me\u201d to communicate their difficulties will minimize chances of them resorting to disruptive behaviors.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">This language serves as a replacement behavior instead of engaging in self-stimulatory or disruptive behaviors.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7feca84 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"7feca84\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-db5fd3b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"db5fd3b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Eventually, your child will need to learn how to deal with challenges by developing more perseverance when things are difficult. You can achieve this by posing different challenges and encouraging your child to keep trying and not giving up.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">As mentioned in Tip #3, we should focus on your child\u2019s attempt at trying (trying behaviour) and not the end product or correctness. By doing so, it would make your child more resilient. Intermittent success at their trying attempts would also encourage your child to try and not give up. Resilence is one aspect of a multitude of learning-how-to-learn skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">When you focus on learning-how-to-learn skills, you will better equip your child at learning more independently.
