Like many parents, Preston\u2019s mother began noticing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) signs in Preston early on\u2014around the time he turned one.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI found out about my child\u2019s diagnosis when he was 4 years old. However, I did have my suspicions of my child being on the spectrum as early as one year old.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

\u00a0It wasn\u2019t until he was four years old that they received a formal diagnosis of ASD. That moment brought with it a wave of emotions.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cInitially when my child was diagnosed, I was incredibly saddened and fearful. There was also a deep sense of guilt. However, I have learned that all those emotions are part of the grieving process\u2014and they are completely valid.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

It wasn\u2019t the end of their hopes\u2014it was the start of a new journey, filled with learning, support, and small steps forward.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Living in Guam, Preston\u2019s mom found the resources for ASD support limited. Determined to find the right help, she began searching online and came across <\/span>Autism Partnership (AP) Manila<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cAutism Partnership was the first provider that caught my eye from what I read on their website. Prior to enrolling, my knowledge of ABA was limited\u2014but I knew it was one of the most clinically proven methods of intervention.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

From the first email to starting his intervention, through clinic meetings, parent training, and ongoing support \u2013 everything fell into place.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cThey were able to give us an in-depth analysis of Preston in just one session. It gave us confidence that we were making the right decision.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Since starting <\/span>intensive ABA therapy<\/b> at AP, Preston has made remarkable progress.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cNo words can express how much growth our son has made. Hearing him say \u2018Mommy\u2019 and \u2018Daddy\u2019 for the first time\u2014it was a big achievement for us as a family.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

From a mostly non-verbal child who relied on hand-leading, Preston is now able to speak, engage, and express himself.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cAfter exactly one month of therapy, he began saying words like \u2018mommy\u2019 and \u2018papa.\u2019 He can now sit still, focus on tasks, and respond to people with greetings and simple answers.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

What used to feel scary has now turned into a daily celebration\u2014every little win, every new word, every smile means the world to Preston\u2019s mom.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Some parents worry about their role in therapy. But for Preston\u2019s mom, being included was something she welcomed.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI was excited to be involved and eager to learn. I love how the team breaks down each program and ensures we understand every detail.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

Through clinic meetings and ongoing support, she became more than a parent\u2014she became an advocate and a teacher in her son\u2019s learning journey.<\/span><\/p>

For any parent facing a new diagnosis or feeling overwhelmed, Preston\u2019s mom has a message from the heart:<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIt\u2019s okay to feel overwhelmed\u2014it doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019ve failed. It means you care deeply.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

\u201cAlthough ASD is life changing, it\u2019s not insurmountable. Be brave and be proud, because our children deserve nothing less.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>

And what does she wish more people knew about being a parent of a child with autism?<\/span><\/p>
